Save the Date!

We have set our wedding date!  Join our families on September 2, 2017 for a celebration in the mountains around Boulder, Colorado!

Credit to Joyce Turley for the styling on our lovely Save the Date cards!  There is a lot of meaning packed into the Save the Dates, but to unpack it, you first have to know about the proposal….once you’ve read that, read on!

Stephen’s proposal – that we spend a million-billion moments together – was the inspiration for the Save the Date message.  We’ve been blessed with many incredible moments and memories together, and when we think of our wedding, we are planning for an incredibly special memory with the people who mean the most to us all in the same place at the same time!

Stephen’s proposal took place after an ATV trip. The photos of the big moment were our trademark selfies, with mussed up hair and mud splatters on our faces.  And we were embarrassed to realize that we were wearing our “adventure” clothes – i.e. the exact. same. outfits. we wear on every single adventure we’ve ever taken.  But like most of our adventures together, you just cannot beat those grins!

And so we decided to feature those imperfect/perfect moments (not to mention our repetitive clothing choices) in our Save the Dates, along with many of our favorite moments/locations from the past two years of adventure travel!  We’ve provided a guide below for locating these moments on a map and timeline – test yourself by guessing the chronological order by studying Stephen’s ever-lengthening hair!

Photo Guide:

In order from left to right, top to bottom:

  1. Antigua, West Indies, December 2016 – Kim shows off her new ring right after the proposal!
  2. Huangshan, China, June 2016 – We raced to catch the sunset (just in time!) at the top of a peak in China known for its surreal scenery.
  3. Fort Collins, CO, May 2014 – We enjoyed one last visit to the Turley’s before Kim’s departure for China
  4. Schilthorn, Switzerland, August 2016 – We made like James Bond (but in summer…), and trekked down the famous mountain during a week of backpacking between villages.
  5. Yangshuo, China, June 2016 – We snapped a shot in front on the iconic scene featured on the 10RMB note…just don’t ask us about the drama that followed us all the way to the overlook and back!
  6. Beijing, China, June 2016 – We bid each other farewell at Beijing International Airport – obligatory airport selfie.
  7. Entebbe, Uganda, May 2015 – Sated from gorilla trekking and safari, we prepared to say “until next time” once again
  8. Ande Beach, Philippines, February 2015 – We snorkled and dove from the private beach of our resort in paradise – note our cliffside bungalow in the background!
  9. Ayers Rock, Australia, December 2015 – The Faltemiers joined us for a jet-setting adventure around Australia.  We stand by our decision to spend only 24hrs near Ayers Rock – the setting is gorgeous, but the heat is no joke!
  10. Longji Rice Terraces, China, June 2016 – The scenery around the terraces is like nothing we’ve ever seen, and by rising early, we enjoyed an entirely private walk through the rice fields at dawn.
  11. Great Wall, China, February 2015 – It doesn’t snow often in Beijing, but when it does, you really want to catch a shot on the Great Wall!
  12. Antigua, West Indes, December 2016 – The sign says it all – Kim (and Stephen!) are off the market!  We snapped this pic during a celebratory lunch (the first of many!) with the Faltemiers.
